Episode 13 - Nioh vs. Dark Souls: Which is Better?

00:0000:00

The third PS4 exclusive in as many months, Nioh, was released last week and Scott has been enjoying his time playing through the game. It has received incredibly high scores from most reviewers and has a lot in common with the Dark Souls series, so we examine which of the two games is better.

We also debut the Mel Gibson Book Movie Club, to help Mel with his comeback. In this section, we watch a Mel Gibson movie and share our thoughts on it. This week, The Patriot is up for discussion.

Finally, we also talk about how La La Land is going to win all the Oscars, and share our obligatory hate thoughts about the Nintendo Switch.

Episode 12 - Is it Time to Forgive Mel Gibson?

00:0000:00

Oscar Nominations were revealed this week, and among the slew of praise for La La Land and a higher-than-normal rate of nominated non-white actors was a bit of a surprise: Mel Gibson is back, and nominated for Best Director for Hacksaw Ridge. In this episode, we discuss whether or not it's time to forgive ol' Mel for his past transgressions.

This week, we also chat more about the Nintendo Switch, the new Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix Avengers game, the title of the next Star Wars movie, and the very first video games we ever played.

Episode 11 - Is Gravity Rush 2 Better Than The Last Guardian?

00:0000:00

This week's episode of The Gentleman's Pantry begins with a cheeky chat about Star Wars bounty hunter characters before moving on to more serious topics. The Nintendo Switch is being highly under-manufactured, and the majority of retailers will not be receiving stock outside of their preorder allocation, and we have proof.

Also, what's up with George R.R. Martin taking forever to write the Game of Thrones novel? It's stressing Scott out.

And finally, Japan Studio's Gravity Rush 2 hit store shelves over the weekend. It's a wonderful sequel and highly relaxing game. And while it may share some aspects with The Last Guardian, which was released just over a month ago, we examine which of the two is a better game.

Does the Switch Mean the End for Nintendo?

00:0000:00

Nintendo officially unveiled their new console, the Switch, this week. Many people throughout the world enjoyed their conference and have shown unrestrained enthusiasm for the new device. But not us.

The good moments were few and far between during the reveal conference, and we speculate whether or not the Switch might be the final nail in Nintendo's coffin. JD also gives a very loud and emotional rant about the company that continues to abuse and take advantage of its customers.

Where Should the Next Assassin’s Creed Take Place?

00:0000:00

Fresh off of the holiday season, Scott and JD both watched the Assassin's Creed movie this week. It has not been received well by critics and fans, and is performing poorly at the box office. But while plenty of people are slamming the movie for being boring and uncreative, it actually is a fairly good sci-fi film that is simply suffering from the wrath of a butt-hurt fanbase. We explain why.

We also talk about some settings that we'd like to see future Assassin's Creed games take place in, each of which is drastically different from anything we've seen in any of the games so far.

The Last Guardian: Amazing or Colossal Disappointment? - The Gentleman’s Pantry Episode V

00:0000:00

After nine long years of development, Japan Studio finally released The Last Guardian this week. It was been the recipient of mixed reviews, ranging from perfect tens to shameful zeroes. But what do Scott and longtime Team Ico fan, Austin, think of the game? This week’s episode of The Gentleman’s Pantry features an extended discussion of the game’s mechanics, its shortcomings, what it does best, and why reviewer Austin Flynn is hesitant to even give it a score.

Scott also waxes nostalgic with a chat about his favourite childhood T.V. show, Oakie Doke, and we take turns describing our romantic lives with video game titles.
